Winter At Snowport: A Pop-Up Market in the Heart of Boston

Zoe Wyett & Kylie Marcus

In mid-December, we visited Snowport, a pop-up market in Boston. Located in the Seaport district, Snowport lasts throughout December. It features tiny shops selling everything from food to clothing to artwork.

One of the best things about the shops at Snowport is how they mix creativity into the shopping experience. All their jewelry shops captured this spirit perfectly, making our shopping exciting and memorable. Snowport has many kinds of shops for jewelry, one of our favorites being Petunia Boston. Not only did it have a stylish variety of rings, but it also had sweaters, necklaces, and bracelets. We talked to one of the employees at the booth, who said their favorite part of working in Snowport was “meeting and talking to new people.” They created a fun and welcoming environment for all their customers! We visited a few other jewelry shops as well, both purchasing necklaces from Pia & Co. Pia & Co had a beautiful display of lariat necklaces and statement earrings. Their pieces were presented on eye-catching displays, each sleek and simple with a unique touch. These pedestals grab your attention while ensuring each piece of jewelry stands out. What makes pop-up stores so special is their connection with their customers. Since their space is temporary, it provokes a sense of urgency and thrill, encouraging people to not only look at their pieces but to take them home before they are gone.

One of our first stops at Snowport was a hot chocolate station we had seen all over social media: The Fat Cactus. Its diverse menu provided the perfect blend of coziness and adventure. The peppermint stick hot chocolate’s rich taste and flavorful peppermint sticks created a delicious drink. Whether walking by or getting a cup, you are drawn in by the warm and vibrant aroma. During our visit, we had the opportunity to interview an employee. When asked, “What’s your favorite part about working in Snowport,” he replied, “It’s not like being in a regular Christmas market. You’re out in a holiday market, getting to interact with people and bring them a little bit of joy during the holidays.” It was clear that the delicious hot chocolate added to the festive atmosphere.

Cheese Louise offers more than just a meal; it creates a fun and remarkable customer experience. “The Baconator” includes Cabot cheddar, muenster, and bacon on sourdough bread, the perfect savory snack to finish off our trip to Snowport. They also offered The Vermonster, The Godmother, The Blue Buffalo, and The Hot Potato. These grilled cheeses weren’t just a basic sandwich, all of their options were delicious and packed with flavor. Since this was one of our favorite spots, we talked to an employee, asking them what their favorite part of the Snowport was, to which they replied, “Being a part of a community with the food vendors.” It's nice to see a community being built within the food vendors at snowport, it shows they are committed to creating an exceptional experience while creating connections. This truck was one of the best options for food in Snowport, they transformed a plain grilled cheese into a supremely exciting and tasty experience.

Snowport is a winter destination that combines festivity with creative energy. The pop-up stores showcase a variety of handmade artwork and cultural pieces. One standout was a Spanish plate for cooking and bringing pops of color into a room. The grate plate from I See Spain is designed with spikes at the bottom, giving you the ability to cut ingredients, primarily garlic, on the bottom of it. Not only was the bowl highly practical and useful, but it also featured beautiful designs and vibrant colors. The artwork at Snowport was distinct, differing from what you’d find in larger chain stores. It had an element of surprise and invited people to interpret the pieces in their own way. Another pop-up with a special theme around all of its pieces was, The Blank Canvas Co., with quality art pieces and ability to give a space for artists to unleash their creativity. Offering a wide range of exceptional art created by local underground artists adds to the appeal of the pop-up. Finally, our last stop for artwork was Rusty & Ingrid. This shop contained a cozy and creative haven for art enthusiasts, specializing in handcrafted, limited edition prints inspired by New England’s charm. Whether you’re seeking a meaningful piece to take home or simply want to admire the beauty of locally crafted work, Rusty & Ingrid is a must-see for lovers of art and New England.

After exploring the unique and diverse attractions at Snowport, we highly recommend adding it to your must-visit list. Although it is currently closed, the magic will return next holiday season, reopening in early November. Be sure to check it out and experience all the festive charm it has to offer.
